Good Morning Sports fans…
As we wrap up the first week of December, it’s certainly been a chilly one – but that hasn’t stopped our runners from getting out on the track! With Christmas coming quicker than we think and our festive drinks only a week away, here’s a look at what we’re been up to👇🐎
GOWITDFLOW AND FROST MOON AT LUDLOW
On Wednesday mid-morning Noel and I headed for Ludlow where we were running two nice mares making their debuts for the team in the bumper. Mares bumpers are hard to find. You never like pitching them against each other, but both were ready to get started.
We kicked things off with GOWITDFLOW. She’s a mare who won her only start in a three-runner point-to-point and is now trained by Noel Williams. We had Caoilin Quinn onboard. Overall she ran a nice race. She was a bit green and got a little bit lost midway through the race, but she came home well in a slowly run race to be beaten only 7 1/4 lengths. She will improve for the experience. We learned plenty about her and we probably want to make more use of her on a galloping track. She’s certainly one who’ll go very close in a bumper over the coming months.

Next up we had Frost Moon. This mare is a big imposing type who had been a bit keen at home, so Dan had put a hood on her. The main aim with her was to get her settled so she could finish her race, as there had been a small question mark about her wind. Keilan settled her off the pace and she went round like an absolute lamb. Travelled into the race nicely and she kept galloping from the turn in.
If you watch Keilan’s body language you can see he was hands and heels the whole way and never touched her with the stick. That tells you she was always galloping, giving plenty and that her wind was absolutely fine. She’s a filly we can ride a bit more forward in a bumper next time and a more galloping track will suit her. It never helps when you’re held up in slowly run races and a better gallop will definitely suit her.
It was all about getting these horses started and learning about them. We were pleased with both fillies and they’ll hopefully be going very close on their next starts.

Millstatt abbey gallops morning
On Thursday morning myself, Noel and Steph went out to meet the owners of Millstatt Abbey, who was having an away day in Lambourn. Gavin Sheehan was on duty to have a sit on her and I was getting a sit on QUEENOFTHEJUKEBOX.
After spending all summer riding out at Noel’s I’d managed not to have a fall, but cantering up the long gallop in a full canter the Queen spotted something in the distance and jammed on the brakes. I did what they call in the business a roly poly over her head, held onto her and got dragged underneath. Gavin then came galloping over me and I got a good kicking for good measure, right in front of all the owners, who were mostly just laughing at me. It’s definitely a young man’s game!!! Taking falls as you get older is not something the body is designed for. The filly was sensible enough, we caught her quickly and were soon back down to the bottom of the hill. I led the piece of work and Gavin joined me at the six and a half furlong marker with Millstatt Abbey and they quickened up very nicely together.
We then took the owners for a good breakfast in the Queens Arms, which was a regular haunt for us back in the day after racing. We had a proper catch up with everyone including our (new owner) Eunice Williams, Plenty of banter as always. It was a real baptism of fire for Eunice as she was thrown in at the deep end with this wild bunch. The owners Craig Williams, Lee Daley, Nikki Bannister and Carl Purvis are always great fun. Anyone who was on our Punchestown trip last year will confirm that.
Despite the rain hammering down all morning it was a very enjoyable morning and the crack was mighty🕺

a lucky catch
Hey team, as you all know, we like to keep our owners well up to date with every fine detail about each individual horse. The horse above is Our In De wild and he actually held an entry for Friday at Exeter. As always, three days before a race Alan King checks them over. He does a track-wash and scopes them to make sure everything is looking right.
When the vet went in he found that Out In De Wild had an entrapped Epiglottis. It’s not very common and the only horse myself and Noel knew that had it was Cue Card. After speaking with Alan, he said Smad Place, who won the Hennessy had it and that he generally sees one case a year.
We were very lucky we checked because if we hadn’t and he’d run, he would have struggled to get oxygen to his lungs. We’d have been standing there very disappointed, especially as this is a horse we like a hell of a lot.
It’s going to hold him up for about two weeks, then he can start light exercise again. Overall, it’ll probably put us back a month but, it’s not the end of the world. He’s a bumper horse and we only envisaged three runs for him this season anyway so, it might just mean he has two.

OUT IN DE WILD's procedure

Hey team, I hope you all enjoy this video of Noel regarding Amazonica, who we recently had castrated. He’s a beautiful horse and although we didn’t get to run him this year as a two-year-old, we’re very excited about him as a three-year-old. He’s a fine individual and his homework was very good with Owen Burrows earlier this year. He’s definitely one to look forward to and it can only be an advantage being two stone lighter!!!

AMAZONICA update from Noel
hidden history ran at sandown
On Friday, Hidden History went down to Sandown as a pretty strong favourite after his win at Aintree and we were confident there would be definite improvement from that run. He travelled nicely and jumped well. However after the Railway Fences it became hard work for him. He finished sixth but, it was a fairly tame effort overall especially as we were expecting a lot more. It’s not like him to finish like that as he’s usually a very strong finisher.
We’ll see what comes to light over the next few days once he’s been checked over. Dan said he hasn’t had a horse run like that all season so, they’ll be doing a few tests to see if anything shows up. Off his handicap mark, we definitely expected better.
Despite the result all the owners still had a lovely day. It’s always great to have runners at Sandown!

Patrick gets Listed Honours at Sandown
Saturday — my God, we’re enjoying our Saturdays at the minute. We went to Sandown myself and Noel with Hurricane Pat after a very tidy performance last time out at the track. This looked a seriously strong listed novice hurdle. We had finished second in this race a couple of years ago and we corrected that with an unbelievably impressive performance from Hurricane Pat, who was given a very confident ride by Caoilin Quinn.
Myself and Noel were a little worried through the first mile wondering if he was travelling as well as he can but, he came alive down the back and there was never a moment’s worry after that. This was a big step up on his maiden hurdle win last month. His owners are dreaming of big things and quite rightly so.
In the owners’ box afterward we even had a phone call from JP McManus and we’ve already turned down a million pounds for him🙃🙃🙃. But what a brilliant day. Two weekends, two big Saturday winners. This is what it’s all about. We’re absolutely buzzing not just for myself and Noel but, for our owners, all of you, as you’re all part of the team.

Next week…
Looking ahead, we’ve got a busy week with plenty of entries lined up. BARON NOIR, SKI LODGE and DELTA BLUES BELLE could all head to Uttoxeter on Tuesday; otherwise, BARON NOIR will head to Leicester on Wednesday, while DELTA BLUES BELLE also has an entry at Cheltenham on Friday.
On Tuesday, myself and Noel will be heading up to Fergal O’Brien’s before we go racing. We’re looking forward to welcoming the owners of Midnight Jukebox to Ravenswell Farm to see their horse in action. We had a little hiccup with him through the autumn but, he’s now in full training and looking very exciting. Definitely one to look forward to.
The horse he beat in his point-to-point, Soldier Reeves, actually ran against Hurricane Pat yesterday and finished 2nd to Hurricane Pat, he’s trained by Dan Skelton and has franked his point-to-point form by going on to win a maiden hurdle at Cheltenham the last day. I can’t wait to have a sit on him
On wednesday ROCK SENSATION could go to Hereford. On Thursday ADONEDEAL could make his second start for the team at Taunton and if not, he also holds an entry at Bangor-on-Dee the following day. On Friday MALFOY MANOR could be heading to Warwick. Lots to look forward to as we head into a full week of lots of Racing!
At the back end of the week, next Friday and Saturday, myself and Noel are likely to be in Cheltenham. We’ll meet up with anyone who’s there in our usual spot and we’ll confirm the details later in the week.
