GOLF DAY
On Monday 8th it was lovely to see a host of owners, trainers and jockeys at our Annual Golf Day at Newbury and Crookham Golf Club. Thank you to everyone who attended and to all those who helped make this a fantastic occasion. I thought the course was in great shape, some really good golf was played and lots of fun was there to be had.

ROCK SENSATION
She had her second outing for trainer Nick Scholfield at Southwell on Tuesday 9th in a maiden hurdle. Due to lack of opportunity against her own sex ‘Rock’ was forced into open company under Johnny Burke.
On stable debut at Fontwell she got a fright at the first flight when another horse jumped across her and subsequently lacked confidence in her hurdling. It was evident Nick had done plenty of schooling since Fontwell as her jumping was really good at Southwell particularly when she had to be brave over the last two flights.
The race went to plan with Johnny settling ‘Rock’ behind the leaders but also slightly wide to allow a good view of her hurdles. Turning for home ‘Rock’ looked to be going better than the well backed favourite Manalishi (held previous decent placed form) but he stayed on doggedly to prevail by 2.5 lengths. The third and fourth were miles behind so this was a good performance by the two principles who had pulled clear.
Johnny said he was always travelling comfortably and felt there was a lot of untapped potential to see next season. I’m never happy being beaten but on this occasion we went away thinking there is plenty more to come. She’ll have a good summer at grass now and we can all look forward to a profitable season with Rock Sensation.

OWNERS WALK AT HAGG HILL
One of the best days of the year – the annual Ownerswalk around at Hagg Hill gave over a hundred people a huge amount of fun. Blessed with good weather, loads of Champagne and plenty of ‘Crossey Sausages’ everyone had a great time getting up close to the horses.
After sharing some drinks we started with a tour of Hagg Hill to look at some of the upgrades put into place by Noel and Tash. There were also some horses in the yard that all received a pat and some fuss.
Next up was a chance to view our recent purchases in the field. As a group they were later going to grass than the established team and, therefore, they’ll have a fortnight extra in the field so they can all benefit from a good summer on holiday.
We then walked into another field to see our team of mares who all looked really chilled in the sunshine. It was the ideal time to walk among the horses to give them some love and attention.
After some more drinks and even more sausages we jumped into the car to visit another piece of land owned by Noel & Tash. In that field were our team of geldings who also looked in great shape summering in the sun. Another photo opportunity!
Thanks to everyone who attended and to all the hard working people who put the show on the road. Particularly to Steph and Tash as they did tonnes of work in the background and were also working on the day itself.

Noel and Tash were pleased to host plenty of owners throughout the week. Andrew Polson saw his horses , Star Walking, Uda Man Dan and Power Steering on Tuesday. Hopefully, I’ll see him soon on a golf course.

Emma Holmes, owner of Recite A Poem, had a busy time as she was at Royal Ascot on Wednesday, visited Hagg Hill for the first time on Thursday and then drove back up to her Yorkshire base.
On Friday Regan Stone and Alan Young popped in to see their new purchase Whiskeyontherocks who is a lovely 4-y-o filly with Harry Fry. She will join Double The Dance who is also in their ownership.
Owners are always welcome at Hagg Hill so please ring Noel to book a suitable date and time.
EGGING ON JACK
I’m very proud of my son Jack as he won the ‘Egg and Spoon’ race at his school sports day on Wednesday. However he now tells me he is “The Champ” and can take on all comers – but he’s in for a shock as ‘Daddy’ will be dusting off his running shoes.
There will be no quarter asked or given. I’m going to thrash him without mercy when we clash in a race this afternoon. He doesn’t know this yet but I’m gluing an egg to my spoon.

ROYAL ASCOT
Royal Ascot is one of my busiest weeks of the year with every member of my hospitality team working flat out entertaining guests.
On Tuesday I saw Tony Chapman in the ON5 Restaurant, he was hosting a group of family and friends. It was lovely see long term owners Ian and Gill Burgess in the Sandringham together with Andy and Moira Warner who were ‘Trackside’.

On Wednesday it was nice to meet Emma Holmes for the first time together with Sam Hurlock and Sammy Williamson. The brothers John and Mick King were having a great time being entertained by a group of Irish clients. And it was also a pleasure to chat with Andrew Eley and Rebecca Stokes-Whittaker in the Parade Ring Restaurant.

On another beautiful day (Thursday) I popped across to meet Steven Crabb who was in typically good form in the Lawn Enclosure.
I also popped up to Johnny De La Hays box and caught up with Ruthie & Peter Wigmore who were in great form.

Friday was cooking 
at Ascot and it was good to meet up with Lee Shorter whilst he waited for The King & Queen.
Tom & Denise O Shea were in good form as always & they were hanging out with Ryan Heal who was celebrating his 50th Birthday

5 days at Royal Ascot takes its toll so I was delighted to start to see the finishing line on Saturday. Juggling the day job I still managed to have a quick catch up with Andy & Lynne Andy Marsh in the Royal Enclosure whilst Richard, Fiona and the Stone family popped down to see me by the parade ring.
It was then a sprint up to see John Ryan in one of the box’s, Steve, Edwina Welch and family in the ON5 Restaurant along with Tony Chapman and his family.
Last but not least on the other side of the stand in the Panoramic Restaurant it was great to catch up with Carl Purvis, Lee Daly and their wives.
