There’s been plenty on this week with some strong runs from our horses and a great bunch of Owners enjoyed our golf getaway to Portugal👇🐎
Monday 24th
hansard at kempton
On Monday Noel headed to Kempton to watch Hansard making his chasing debut. We were all very excited to see how he would get on. We never really had him down as the type to jump fences, but his schooling this autumn had been very good.
He jumped off just the pace and popped the first few fences nicely. However at the fence turning away from the stands the horse Aurogny Mill jumped right onto the back of Hansards hindquarters. His hind end slipped out from under him, costing him a significant amount of ground. All in all he did well to stay standing.
As a result Caoilin then ended up having to use him up, to get him into the race. Hansard then took a blow and from that point Caoilin looked after him.
All in all, it was a nice chasing debut from him. He’ll have gained valuable experience, which he can hopefully put to good use moving forward.
HANSARD at Kempton
Next up at Ludlow we had Kamsinas . From the off we were slightly on the back foot as we were slow away and he never really took Johnny down to his fences. He’s not the biggest horse and he found it a bit tough getting from A to B, which is why he ended up shifting slightly out to his left over the fences. Johnny still persevered and got him into the race turning into the home straight. When one fell, it presented us with a nice opportunity.
It looked for a moment as though he’d pick up and go on to win, but he missed the last two fences and was beaten by a short head. One thing this horse always does is give you 200% and it was a lovely chasing debut from him all in all. Another second for the team, but we’ll definitely be turning these seconds into winners before too long. You just need a bit of luck in this game and without it you’ve got nothing.
The owners had a great day as always, with Mark Ball looking after them on course. We’ll regroup and make another plan for this horse over the coming weeks.

Dad’s Bathroom Surprise 🛁
This week I discovered that relaxing baths are officially cancelled. I was enjoying a rare moment of peace when my little lad Jack marched in like he owned the place, armed with a cup of freezing cold water. Before I could even say “No, wait.. “ SPLASH! Direct hit to the face.
He burst into laughter, sprinted for the door, then turned back for round two and dumped the rest over me. Just to make sure I was fully awake.

Wednesday 26th
delta blues belle and laffer curve at wetherby
On Wednesday Delta Blues Belle had her second run over hurdles for us at Wetherby. Noel made the long trip up north which took over five hours, but when you have a good team of owners there it is always worth it.
She travelled and jumped nicely, but the pace was steady early on and they quickened turning into the home straight which left her outpaced. We feel she will definitely appreciate a longer trip in time. For now, we will get another run into her over two miles and once she is handicapped it will give us more options.
DELTA BLUES BELLE in the paddock
Laffer Curve was next up, making her debut for us after a pleasing effort at Ascot back in February. She was a bit keen early on, but Tristan got her into a lovely position and got her nicely settled. She went through the race like a really nice horse and she moved up well two out and looked like she would go win her race. However when he asked her to go on she just flattened out and ending up finishing fifth.
Watching the run back it looked quite similar to how she ran at Ascot. Now that she has had another run we feel we have learnt a bit more about her. She is likely to be one that needs to be dropped in during her races and maybe step up slightly in trip with an obstacle in front of her. That is what we will look at moving forward.
All in all we are a little disappointed with her finishing effort, but you only learn about them when you run them and we will use that information to good effect moving forward.

A Tour to Remember:
Portugal 2025
Last Sunday morning in the early hours myself and 23 other owners headed to Portugal armed with our golf clubs for a four day competition! We had a few familiar faces who had been before and a number of new owners joining us for the first time. The competition was fierce right from the start and there were a few El Bandito’s amongust us. I always thought one of our owners Don D’Ambrosio was originally from Italy, but he definitely had a sombrero on during day two when he scooped all the money.
On Tuesday morning, as is now customary, we took a run into the sea for for a very quick swim🥶. It has become an annual tradition and it is compulsory that everyone takes part. Unfortunately only four of us turned up!!! Myself, Stevan Crabb, Bill Hutchins and my fellow Irish compadre Colin Coogan – with Ian Brotherton filming.
To say it was cold would be an understatement. Billy, who had no shorts and went in wearing a pair of trousers, was the second one out. Stevan Crabb was the first out and he came out as fast as he went in. Myself and Coogs had a quick swim and it certainly woke us up after a few drinks the night before.
On the last day we played at Larangel golf course , which is an amazing course and gives everyone a fighting chance. When I am away on holidays I like to have about twenty different bets running with the lads. Going into the final day I was roughly four hundred quid down but with another fifteen bets still alive I had a chance of finishing in profit but in order for that to happen I had to win every single game, so I woke up that morning feeling the pressure.
I had my best round on the opening 9 holes netting 18points but I had to keep that up to have any chance. The back 9 started as a battle but Lo and behold I made two birdies on the back 9 and coming in with my best score of the year which won every bet I had on the last day. I was very happy with that. I was never in contention for the main prize over the four day tour. With prize money down to eighth place that was my target but I stayed mid table in about tenth in the end.
There was fierce competition up front with Bill Hutchins, Billy Eggleton, Stevan Crabb and Paul Quaintance to name only a few all in strong contention going into the last day. With a score of 39 points on the final day Stephen Crabb who was a newcomer and a new owner with us, ended up taking the overall prize.
It was a great competition among great friends and we had great crack. Days like this remind us that our owners are not just owners – they become friends as well. That is all part of the ownership experience. We will be booking another trip in March for four days after the Cheltenham Festival and details will come to you in due course.
A brilliant time was had and hopefully if you were not on this one you will be on the next.

Owners' on Tour!
Saturday 29th
tahmuras and ryan’s rocket at newbury
It’s always great to have runners at Newbury on what I’d call Hennessy Gold Cup Day. I’ve always thought this is one of the biggest meetings of the year and having a couple of runners here is something we really appreciate.
We kicked off with TAHMURAS in the Sir Peter O Sullivan Handicap Chase. We put young Jay Tidball on him for the first time to take 5lb off. He travelled and jumped well for three-quarters of the race before getting a bit tired. Once his chance had gone, Jay looked after him.
TAHMURAS has been a brilliant servant for us, a Grade One winner, but at this stage of his career he needs some respite from the handicapper. He probably needs to drop around 10lb and get into another 0–130 to give him a fair chance of winning. It’s worth remembering he has now run on Hennessy Day and at the Cheltenham Festival on his last two starts, so it hasn’t been a bad experience for his owners.
TAHMURAS's Owners
We had Ryan’s Rocket making his seasonal debut in the last race. We were meant to start him off a few weeks earlier at Aintree, but a small setback meant he was only ready to run now. He’s always been a horse who can race a bit gassy first time out, but even with a strong pace he travelled well in Johnny’s hands. He was in a good position throughout and the quicker they went, the better his chance became.
He jumped very well and moved into the race nicely before going away to win tidily from the back of the last. We love having winners on a big day and for me there’s nothing bigger than Hennessy (Coral) Gold Cup Day. A fifty-grand chase was to boot as well. We had said beforehand that he was a very well-handicapped horse going forward and he proved that yesterday.
We’ll see what the handicapper does and take things from there before making any plans, but you could imagine him running in a two-mile, hundred-grand handicap chase somewhere like Kempton over Christmas. It was a brilliant day with a good group of owners. Some were away, but they all enjoyed it wherever they were.
We’re absolutely chuffed with him winning first time out and I think there’s plenty more to come now he’s got that run under his belt.

Next week…
Looking ahead we have a busy week. On Wednesday FROSTMOON and GOWITDFLOW are planned to make their debut’s for the team at Ludlow, whilst up at Haydock MR HOPE STREET could potential be going to the beginners chase. On Thursday morning we have the Owners of MILLSTATT ABBEY coming down to watch her work in Lambourn. If anyone would like to come and join us for the morning we will be on the Lambourn Gallops and then having a tour around Lambourn, followed by breakfast at the Pheasant Inn.
