We were very excited to see Rock Sensation make her bumper debut on New Years Eve at Uttoxeter but she unfortunately got bogged down on the rain softened churned up ground. The sensible decision was to wait for nicer ground with trainer Ben Pauling selecting Southwell at the end of March for her second outing.

Ridden by a very confident Callum Pritchard she sliced through the field to win impressively. Rock Sensation showed her true ability that day … so it was decided to run her in a Listed Bumper at Cheltenham in November in an attempt to get ‘Black Type’.

Her jockey Ben Jones rode to orders (held up & settle in rear) but on the day it backfired as the field went no gallop until quickening down the hill with four furlongs to run. Rock Sensation gave her all, she quickened up really well and ran a remarkable race to finish a close 4th.

She made her hurdles debut at Hereford (10/12) but got no further than the 2nd flight when she jumped badly right handed which saw poor Kielan Woods unseated. Just eleven days later we went to Lingfield where the official Good to Soft was more Soft/Heavy. To her credit Rock Sensation battled hard into 3rd place but she’ll need a better surface.

After a spell at Hagg Hill we moved her to Nick Scholfield in the hope of seeing some improvement. Nick hasn’t had her too long but worked hard on her jumping which lacked confidence.

Considering it’s mid May this Mares Maiden was a warm event with plenty of bumper winners lining up. Unfortunately we were put on the back foot at the first hurdle as the leader jumped badly right handed which caused some carnage in behind. Johnny Burke felt this gave her a fright, she was then a bit careful on the first circuit but to her credit warmed to the task.

However a mistake four out again tested her confidence, she was careful over the next couple and the leaders were able to pull away. In finishing 4th she ran better than the bare result but her jumping needed more work. The benefit of some intense schooling paid off at Southwell (2nd) when she seemed far more assured. This has given us loads to work with after her summer break in handicaps.
