There’s been plenty happening this week! Here’s a look at what we’re been up to👇🐎
HOLD ON TIGHT… OR DON’T!!!
While I was aboard the Havana Grey colt, we had just finished on the gallops. Freddie was riding a horse called Lolli, who Tash and Noel currently have at Hagg Hill while she’s being brought back into work. So you can imagine she’s very fresh! Freddie had managed to stay on the whole time without falling off.
As we were coming off the gallops, the Havana Grey who I was riding jumped forward , which set Freddie’s horse off. Lolli whipped round towards the fence and unfortunately, Freddie came out the side door. In the game this in known as an unseated rider 🙃
Thankfully, both Freddie and horse were absolutely fine. But it did give me a good laugh — which I’m sure you can hear in the video! 😄 But joking aside Freddie is having his first ride in a point to point today. He’s been waiting 7 years for this day! We would like to wish him the very best of luck and will report back on this next week.

Major Back in the Groove!
Noel headed off to his local track Wincanton on Thursday, where Major Fortune had his third start of the season. Major has been an absolute superstar for the last three and a half years and we were back down to a good handicap mark of 117 just a pound below his last winning mark.
Harry wanted to put a set of cheek pieces on him just to get the fire re-ignited in his belly and we were dropping down in grade. He went through the race like a winner from the start, traveling and jumping superbly! You could probably have called him the winner all the way.
He loved the conditions throughout the race and it was fantastic to get his seventh win for his Syndicate of Owners which now puts him equal with our winning most horse so far Love Envoi. Will he get the record???
We know that when he’s around the mark of 118–120, that’s kind of his limit and he can be very competitive. It’d be nice to win another one with him between now and the end of the season. But it was great to get the old boy, even though he’s only eight, back in the winning groove 🕺

MAJOR FORTUNE's winners video!
🎼Recite A Poem 🎼 Goes back into training
On Tuesday morning I headed down to Noel’s where I had a number of Syndicate horses to sit on, including Recite A Poem. She is a very exciting filly who had a small setback, at the back end of the summer and the vet advised us to give her a little bit of time. Everything is absolutely A1 now, so she is now ready to go back into full training and the excellent Harry Fry is the trainer of choice.
Harry is a trainer who has done exceptionally well for us over the years and we’re thrilled to send him another lovely prospect. She will have her debut in a bumper hopefully in mid-March. Having had a little time off she has done nothing but grow and has turned into a fine young woman. We hold her in the highest regard and are really looking forward to seeing her make her debut in a bumper. She will definitely be an exciting horse when she goes hurdling next season also and If you’d like to get involved get in touch with myself or Noel .

LIFE BACK IN TAHMURAS
On Friday I headed to Windsor, although it was a slightly later departure than planned as Hansard was declared a non-runner in race three after being found to be a lame on the morning of the race. That was such a shame for his owners, especially as the ground had come right for him.
That left us with just one runner on the day, Tahmuras, in the last race and we were throwing everything at him. Tahmuras had been pulled up on his previous four runs, but those came in very competitive races. As a result he had dropped down the handicap and we had been waiting for a day like this. We decided to fit blinkers and take seven-pounds off his back, meaning he was running off a mark of 123. If he could recapture some of his old ability with the help of the blinkers, we had hope rather than outright belief that he could run a big race.
In the parade ring before the race he looked quite revved up and ready to go, the blinkers clearly did the trick. Young Freddie Keighley popped him out in front which was the plan and he judged the pace very well. When a horse travels well, they tend to jump well and that was certainly the case here. Tahmuras put in an excellent round of jumping and ran a very strong race. Even when headed by three horses after the third-last he battled back bravely to finish second.
It was fantastic to see a bit of the old spark back in our former Grade 1 winner. I was also very impressed with Freddie Keighley, who spoke extremely well after the race and gave the horse a lovely ride. The owners were absolutely thrilled he may as well have won the race! We all went for a celebratory drink afterwards which was great fun.

TRAINER SELECTIONS Havana grey colt
On Tuesday morning, I had the opportunity to sit on our three recent flat purchases from the October Yearling Sales. With the turn of the year, they are now officially two-year-olds. Noel and his team did all the hard work breaking them in and getting them settled, so I had the pleasure of riding them for the first time. Sitting on yearlings isn’t something I’d put my hand up for every day, but I thoroughly enjoyed riding these three. They were all very well behaved and Noel and his team have done a fantastic job with them.
The first horse I rode was the Havana Grey colt. I had a good sit on him and afterwards Noel and I agreed that he is a real quality colt. We have a strong relationship with Owen Burrows and love his gallops and the way he manages his horses. We feel this colt will suit him perfectly.

Behind the Scenes at Hagg Hill 😄
I was up at Hagg Hill with Amelia doing our usual update videos and thought we’d grab a video of Ascending Star… easy enough, we thought! Well, it took two attempts – during the first take I took my eyes off him for one second and suddenly it felt like my entire hand disappeared into his mouth! As you’ll hear in the video, I got a bit of a shock 😂 Ascending Star seemed very pleased with himself after biting the hand that feeds him, but then I suppose we did deserve that after taking his balls off!!! Hope you all enjoy the video as much as he enjoyed the moment!

TRAINER SELECTIONS INVINCIBLE ARMY FILLY
The Invincible Army filly is the next one i had a sit on at Noel’s. She is a very sweet young filly who went through her paces nicely. She’s quite forward-going, so we decided she would be well suited to one of the top trainers in the country, Clive Cox. We’re very excited to see what he can do with her this season.

HURRICANE PAT AT HAYDOCK PARK
On Saturday, Noel and I headed up to Haydock, where Hurricane Pat was stepping up from Listed company into a Grade 2 after his impressive win at Sandown. This race was always going to tell us where we stood.
Early on, we ended up tracking the favourite Old Park Star and followed him all the way around. However, turning into the home straight Old Park Star injected a serious turn of pace and we were completely caught out unable to go with him. The winner was very impressive and against him we looked more second division than Premier League over two miles. It’s no surprise that Old Park Star has now jumped to the head of the market for the Supreme.
Where we go from here will be discussed. He’s likely had a fairly hard race, so we’ll regroup, have a proper discussion and take it from there.
That said, he’s been an absolute rockstar so far this season with a Grade 2 second and two wins so there’s really not too much to complain about, even if we were put in our place a little this time.

TRAINER SELECTIONS KODI BEAR FILLY
Last but not least was the Kodi Bear filly. She has a lovely attitude and looks a strong, young lady. We were initially torn between two trainers, but after plenty of discussion we both felt that Ed Walker would be an excellent fit. We’ve been very impressed with Ed particularly with how well he’s done with fillies over the past six years. We also know former jockey George Baker very well, who works closely with Ed. Noel and I also know the Lambourn gallops extremely well, having worked there for over 15 years during our time with Charlie Mann, so we’re delighted to be sending our first horse to the yard.
We’re very much looking forward to seeing what all three can do on the track this summer.
